Resolution 2013: Organize Your Garage

Over the course of a year our garages can end up with excess clutter and chaos.  Many of us want our garage space for what is important to us, such as our cars, our tools and our BenchtopPRO!  So, by getting organized we can have all our space and plenty of room for storage too.

Holly Reich of Vroomgirls recently wrote about getting the garage organized.  She consulted with Lisa Lennard, an organizing expert at California Closets (www.californiaclosets.com.)  She offered these 5 tips to get the process going.

  1. Clean – Take everything out of the garage and giving the space a good cleaning.  Painting might be a good idea and this is the perfect time to do it.
  2. Group – Set up piles for various categories such as tools, home improvement, sports equipment, seasonal items,  gardening items, and so on.  Also, don’t forget to set a pile for donations and one for trash.
  3. Assess – Look at the items in each pile and determine if you really need it, want it ,or can do without it. Try to eliminate as much as you can.
  4. Store – Storage containers can help store many smaller items.  And, to free up floor space, you can use wall panels that use a variety of hooks and baskets. This way it’s easy to hang bicycles, sports equipment, garden tools and ladders.
